TALIAFERRO COUNTY SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM

The TCS Music Program was established in January 2001. Twenty-seven students came together at the old school in the Alexander H. Stephens Park to form the first band. Many of the first set of instruments were donated by band families in Wilkes County, others were purchased at pawn shops and neighboring band directors loaned percussion equipment to start the new program. As the program progressed a new school was built and the band moved in a new band room.

The program continues to be a vital part of the school and the Crawfordville community. About 70 students experience quality music during the school year. General music is offered to grades K-12 where students learn the fundamentals of music and develop skills to perform. Band is offered to grades 6-12 including: Beginning Band, MS Intermediate Band and HS Jazz Ensemble.

Ms. Cole established the program in 2001. Ms. Cole earned a B.M. and M.M.Ed at Valdosta State University. In 2008, Ms. Cole earned an Educational Specialist in Leadership and Administration at Georgia College & State University.
